American Airlines and Mastercard Renew Nearly 40‑Year Partnership to Upgrade AAdvantage Experience

American Airlines and Mastercard have formally extended their long-standing collaboration—spanning almost four decades—with a renewed agreement aimed at offering richer, more secure, and better-personalized travel experiences for AAdvantage® cardholders.

Under the updated deal, Mastercard continues as the exclusive payments network behind American’s co‑branded credit cards. The renewed partnership emphasizes integrating Mastercard’s payment infrastructure, analytics capabilities, and real-time fraud protection to customize offers, enhance mobile bookings, secure payments from reservation to in‑flight, and streamline rewards redemption.

Robert Isom, American Airlines CEO, commented that the airline is proud to join Mastercard in delivering “best-in-class travel solutions” for AAdvantage® cardmembers, offering experiences that elevate each journey.

Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach said he’s immensely proud of the decades-long collaboration, highlighting that the renewed partnership will continue to deliver tailored rewards, robust fraud defenses, personalized offers, and access to unique travel experiences.

AAdvantage® members will benefit from a smoother, more secure journey—from booking to boarding—thanks to Mastercard’s advanced technology. Features include personalized promotions, optimized reward structures, faster transactions, and expanded access to Mastercard’s signature Priceless Experiences, like VIP events, athlete meet-and-greets, and behind-the-scenes tours of iconic sites.

As these two companies look ahead, the renewed agreement signals a commitment to delivering travel solutions that are seamless, secure, and unforgettable.
